New England Farm Wedding in Newbury, Massachusetts
Over the years of photographing weddings each couple that we have been fortunate to work with shine equally as bright; like a constellation of stars forming patterns larger than my mind can see on a celestial sphere of cosmic firsts: dances and reveals and kisses... but sometimes the stars align and the weather is perfect and there seems to be something special in the air. On that particular day, September 5, 2015, just 18 days before summer was coming to a close, a new beginning was on the horizon.
It was on the Bride’s (Betsy) family farm, a quaint and humble home built by her father, nestled in the sprawling oceanside town of Newbury, Massachusetts that Betsy exchanged vows with her Groom, Jordan, and danced the night away to music performed by Jordan and his band The Ways and Means Committee.
It's been a few years since their wedding, yet all it takes is a photograph, visual reminders like the small red and white boat withering beside the roadway or the bunch of Canada goldenrod and purple loosestrife resting in the basket of the bike which Betsy rode along with her husband Jordan, to meet the guests for their reception. Sometimes the tiniest of details can bring us back to a place, to a time; to that crushed shell pathway and birds singing and "The Lovers Waltz" and the grass whispering in the breeze. The anticipation as Betsy and her father fancifully made their way down the aisle hand-in-hand.
The Groom, Jordan, is a member of The Ways and Means Committee, an "electric blues & roots rock band drawing upon the record collections of [their] hippy antecedents and the spirit of the Indy revolution". I was first introduced to Jordan, who contributes bass and vocals, by way of Henry, who contributes percussion and vocals. We photographed Henry’s wedding to Steph in an intimate ceremony at The Old Manse in Concord, Massachusetts during the Autumn of 2014. Featured below is an audio clip of Henry introducing a special song they performed for Betsy during the wedding reception. Please enjoy while scrolling through the post—and if you're in Somerville, Massachusetts for Porchfest, their porch is NOT to be missed!
Friends of the bride and groom who contributed their services include florist Laura Perry-Platine, cakes by Jacque Caglia, and invitations by Kasia Ciesla. Endless summer hours were spent preparing the fields and property.
